Back-to-school Guidelines

Welcome back to another exciting new school year!

Whether you’re just joining us at HISD, or you are returning more committed than ever before to our student’s academic success, we want you to know that at this moment HISD is uniquely poised to deliver on the promise of providing a world-class education to all its students, thanks to you.

I am looking forward to what the future holds in store for our district as we now enter the implementation phase of our five-year strategic plan. As part of this plan, we committed ourselves to placing a world-class educator in front of each HISD student, as well as putting the necessary supports in place to help #TeamHISD succeed.

To put our plan in motion, we have developed the 2022-2023 Back to School Guidelines as a resource guide for all things HISD. These guidelines outline important information for students, staff and parents regarding health and safety protocols, academic initiatives, instructional supports and so much more.

I encourage you to review these Back-to-School Guidelines to understand all the tools available in HISD. Beginning Monday, August 22nd, any employee that has a COVID-19 positive diagnosis must complete the COVID-19 self-reporting form available at myHISD Portal under the Forms section. Employees must also notify their immediate supervisor,

I look forward to working with you to ensure all of us have a safe and successful school year.

Boy Scout Opportunity

Troop-125 was founded in 1946 with the main focus on light-weight backpacking. The Boy Scouts offers a great opportunity for our children to explore and enjoy the great outdoors.  Furthermore, they will be provided with a structured environment in which to develop their independence and leader-ship and communication skills.  The highest accomplishment in scouting is the Eagle Scout rank, which is looked upon favorably when advancing their education and/or career.

Troop-125 is sponsored by St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (5308 Buffalo Speedway).  We meet there every Monday 7:30-8:30 pm, and camp monthly over the weekend (Friday night – Sunday morning).

For more info, please visit our web site (www.troop125.org) or Facebook page.  No prior scouting experience is required to participate.  If interested, please e-mail Eric or Brian. We could arrange for you to visit in one of our Monday night meetings or campouts.

Some important information was recently shared by Ms. Goudeau:

Schedule Change Requests

DeBakey Students can check their courses through HISD Connect/PowerSchool. Students may start requesting schedule changes on August 15 using a google form link. Please do not submit multiple requests. Think about the changes and review your courses carefully before completing the google form. Requests MUST be submitted no later than September 2, 2022 @ 3:00 pm. The form will be closed @ 3:00 pm, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Grounds for SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUEST:

  • You have received SUMMER SCHOOL CREDIT
  • You are in the WRONG CLASS based on your 4 Year Plan
  • You are in the WRONG CLASS LEVEL
  • You need to drop AP/HADV/Pre-AP class DUE TO HEAVY COURSE LOAD (Once you are removed from the class, you will not be able to return if you change your mind.)

Also keep in mind that your schedule will shift, and you may not have the same teachers and class periods as your original schedule. The most important thing is that you have the correct classes and not the order of the classes.

*Requests to move to another class period or another instructor will not be honored.

Please do not email the Counselors with your schedule request.

Missing Textbooks

Many students did not turn in textbooks at the end of the school year. Please look for your books and bring them with you to school next week when you come to pick up your laptops. We need the books for other students. Your help is appreciated.
