Summer 2025 Travel Opportunity

Dear DeBakey Students / Parents / Families,

Travel usually allows your student a unique opportunity to experience the global classroom first-hand and see what they have been studying in our class come to life. It gives them new perspectives not only of themselves but also the world around them.  Our students have lost so much the last year+, so we want to give them something incredible to look forward to in the future!

We’re pleased to announce that your student has been selected to participate in a health sciences-themed international educational travel opportunity through HISD Abroad in 2025 to England, Scotland, and France! With multiple HISD campuses teaming together there is limited space on the trip, so I hope you and your child will be able to join us at the upcoming online meeting to learn more about this opportunity!

Imagine your student…

  • Engaging with an international medical world beyond their classroom and local community
  • Immersing themselves into the historical streets of Edinburgh, London, France, and more.
  • Sightseeing Europe’s unique historical and modern cityscapes.
  • Engaging in immersive Scotland Yard Detective CSI Workshops
  • Enjoying a Q&A with British medical practitioners and a visit to Scotland’s Surgeons Hall
  • Standing in awe before Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower, and the Louvre’s Mona Lisa
  • So much Harry Potter, Beatles, Dr. Who, Mary Poppins, and more fandom
  • Eating fish & chips in London, crepes in Paris, and maybe even some haggis in Scotland :)
  • Stepping outside of their comfort zone and experiencing new foods, cultures, and people
  • Receiving an experience that will help them stand out on future college or job applications
  • Learning to navigate new situations with confidence and maturity

Where are we going?

Students will have the chance to participate in an educational tour through Scotland, England, and France during the summer of 2025! We’ll gain a deeper understanding of these places’ fascinating geographical, political, and cultural history by exploring their unique sights and cities. Students will also have unique access to international medical experiences.

What are next steps?

We will be hosting a Zoom info meeting on Tuesday, April 18 at 6:00 PM

This meeting will provide more details about this opportunity and answer questions you may have.

Please RSVP for Zoom link and more info: https://bit.ly/HISDHSci2025RSVP

In the meeting, we will be talking about why we feel this tour is important right now, trip details, EF's risk-free, 100% money-back enrollment period, and all the ways in which they're leading the charge on student safety.

Students can receive high school or university credit for attending this tour.

***this is an HISD Abroad-supported opportunity***

I hope you and your student are excited to learn more about this incredible tour!

Thank you,

DeBakey Running Club @ the Green 6.2

Members of Debakey’s Running Club participated in their final team race of the year, the Green 6.2 run this past Saturday. It became a club officer run! Historian JJ Mondarte won first in his age group for the 10K and President Hannah Rosanes won third female overall for the 5K! They felt the support from their Treasurer Dashiell Helmer who volunteered on the sidelines to help kick start their new volunteer committee within the club.
