CLASS OF 2027 WELCOME ORIENTATION

DeBakey HSHP teachers and administration will discuss all resources available to you and your student and other important information you may need before the start of school. (Review our DeBakey Class of 2027 website for a sneak peek of these resources now!)

The school will also be open this day, so you can meet the current students, learn about extracurricular activities your child can get involved in, purchase DeBakey school uniforms, and even meet our fantastic PTO parents!

In-Person Uniform & Spirit Wear Sale

APRIL 29

During Welcome Orientation Event

We will have a special in-person sales event of DeBakey Uniforms and Spirit Wear on Saturday, April 29th from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm in the Flex Lab at DeBakey HSHP. This is your opportunity to stop and pick up an item(s) for your student so they can show off their DEBAKEY VIPER PRIDE!

Typically, our store is online but we do accommodate in-person sales dates including this special sale for incoming 9th graders and in August during laptop distribution. The link to see a list of the merchandise in our store is provided in the flyer below.

Please note that during this special in-person sale on April 29th exact CASH is preferred Wifi does not work well at the school for Credit Card and Zelle transactions. Sales tax will be added to all transactions and a 3% conveyance fee is additionally applied to all credit card transactions. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. NO EXCHANGES OR RETURNS after you take receipt of your merchandise.

Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. We have openings for Adult Volunteers (should be VIPS trained and cleared) and Student Volunteers.

10th Grade Picnic - Volunteers Needed - April 29

(2) volunteers are needed to set up and help deliver items like Gatorade, cookies, fruit tray, and other items to the 10th Grade Picnic at Hermann Memorial Park on Sat. April 29, 2023 at 2:30 PM. Please contact Ruth Mendez at ruthtorres21@yahoo.com if you can help. 

Senior Signing Day - May 25

Senior Signing day is a celebration for the Senior Students share where they have selected to fo to college. They can wear their future college t-shirt, take pictures with friends, and win prizes for their dorm rooms. Please help us by dontaing items for the big day. To donate please select from items on the Amazon Wish List (these items will be delivered directly to the school) or contact Nichole Ake or Andrea Simon at 12thliaison@debakeypto.org

REMINDER: Course Selection Now Open!

REMINDER: Course Selection will
close May 8, 2023 at 3pm

Please read the following information carefully:

  • Students are encouraged to ask questions prior to submitting the course selection
  • The course selection PowerPoints along with course descriptions will be emailed to students
  • Students and parents need to fill out the form together or have a conversation about potential courses
  • Please review selections before submitting the form
  • Students will receive a confirmation email from Google forms once submitted
  • Students need to contact their counselor if they do not receive a confirmation email
  • No editing or changes will be allowed after course selection is submitted
  • Students will be given the first 10 days of the fall semester to request schedule changes
  • After 10 days, students will remain in the course until the end of the semester
HISD Code of Conduct Survey

This is your opportunity to provide feedback on the Code of Student Conduct. Your information will be used to improve districtwide services and comply with state mandates.

Please complete this 3-5 minute survey, available here in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, and here in Arabic. All responses will remain confidential.

The survey will close on April 26, 2023.

Apply for the National Recognition Programs!

APPLICATION CLOSES JUNE 12


The College Board National Recognition Programs award your hard work! Sophomores and juniors with a 3.5 GPA or higher, received qualifying scores on eligible administrations of the PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10, or AP® Exams, and identify as Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Indigenous, or attend high school in a rural area or small town may be eligible for one or more of these programs: 

  • African American Recognition Program
  • Hispanic Recognition Program
  • Indigenous Recognition Program
  • Rural and Small Town Recognition Program

Application Timeline:

Early Spring 

Application opens! BigFuture invites eligible students to apply for recognition. If you don’t receive an invite but believe you’re eligible, you can nominate yourself. Visit bigfuture.org/NRP to apply.

June 12

Deadline for all students to apply. This deadline will not be extended.

Early Fall 

If you receive recognition after applying, you’ll receive an email with instructions to access your official certificate of recognition. Counselors receive an email with a list of their school’s awardees.

Summer Internship Opportunities

The Pangea Network is looking for dedicated and passionate interns for its annual Young Women’s Leadership Challenge (YWLC) program. Our internship is open to college students, as well as high schoolers who are alumni of our program.

Internship dates:

  • Conference internship Mid-May - June 30th

  • Summer internship Mid-May - July 30th
