A warm welcome to our new Class of 2028 parents!

Here are some resources aimed at our new rising freshmen

Class of 2028 Resources
Teacher Appreciation Week

As we head into Teacher Appreciation Week May 6-10, we celebrate the unique brilliance of our teachers who make the world a better place, one student at a time. We join the National Parent Teacher Association and recognize the bright light of each teacher in HISD.

During this Teacher Appreciation Week, please take a moment to:

  • Send your teachers heartfelt letters, cards, and messages of appreciation
  • Create artwork, poems, and video messages to celebrate your teachers
  • Post on social media using the hashtag #ThankHISDTeachers and tag @HoustonISD and @TeamHISD

Don’t forget to cast your vote for Fan Favorite Educator of the Year! Voting is open Monday, May 6, through Sunday, May 12. Winners will be announced at the Educators of the Year celebration on Friday, May 17.

Click here to cast your vote.

No-cost mental and physical health care services are currently available for all students

No-cost mental and physical health care services are currently available for all students on 88 of our campuses and HISD FACE Sunrise Centers through a partnership with Hazel Health. HISD students can be seen virtually by Hazel Health's licensed providers in the nurses' office, at Sunrise Centers, or at home. Students can be treated for everything from stomach aches to colds to rashes, as well as anxiety and depression. Wait time to see a doctor averages only about 4 minutes, and about 86% of students are able to be treated and go back to class. At HISD, we are committed to supporting the whole student.

HISD officials are considering presenting a bond measure voters could consider this fall

HISD officials are considering presenting a bond measure voters could consider this fall. HISD needs to invest in its facilities - especially elementary and middle schools - to best serve HISD students and families. Learn more here.

In our College Admissions Masterclass on May 15th, our Decision Planning module will cover the following:

  • Why the “Way You Apply to College” Can Drive Admissions Outcomes More Than “The Colleges To Which You Apply”

  • Why School Lists Cannot Ever Be “Balanced” — And Why You Want A “Calibrated” List Instead

  • Why The Conventional Categories of Safety, Target, & Reach Are Obsolete

  • “Shell Plans”: Avoiding Application Plans That Colleges Use To Deflate Overall Acceptance Rates, Bait-Switch Applicants, or Serve Other Institutional Priorities
