A reminder that there is no school for students this Monday and Tuesday! Monday is Labor Day, and Tuesday is a professional development day for our staff. Students can use this time to catch up, get ahead, or simply recharge those busy brains, we'll see students back on campus Wednesday, September 3rd, refreshed and ready! • #4 - Progress Reports coming this Friday!

Progress reports will be issued to students this Friday, September 5th during homeroom. Remember that the progress report is a mid-cycle report informing parents of their student's grade prior to the end of the Cycle 1. This grade is not set in stone and there is still time for this grade to go up (or down). Students may be placed in a mid-day tutorial session in an effort to provide them with the support they need to be successful in their classes. Parents can monitor students' grades on HISDConnect (PowerSchool). Students can check Canvas for a list of tutorial or study hall assignment. Mid-Day Tutorials will be held Monday through Thursday. All students are required to attend their assigned tutorials or study hall sessions. Failure to attend may result in detention. A list of Tutorial Assignments will be available on Canvas next Monday. Students will also receive an email with their tutorial assignments. Students, check their outlook email prior to Monday so they know where to report to.

  • #5 - Club Recruiting Season is in Full Swing

We encourage students to seek out clubs or organizations that will feed their passion and provide them with opportunities to find new interests, friendship, and opportunities. From culture to science, debate to dance, there’s something for everyone. Explore clubs on health & medicine, robotics, business & finance, animal welfare, sports, and more. Get involved, find your passion, and make a difference! Students should check Canvas, their email, and campus signage for information on interest meetings. They can also complete this form to contact club leaders directly.

New Weapons Detection System in Place!!

We implemented the HISD's new Weapons detection system last week and we can report a smooth transition. Parents and students should ensure that they arrive a few minutes earlier to avoid tardies. Students are still required to be in their seats by 7:55 am.

To ensure a quick and smooth entry, please leave the following items at home, as they commonly trigger the detection system:

  1. Metal drink containers
  2. Extra electronic devices like personal laptops, ipads, extra cell phones.
  3. Gaming devices such as Nintendo switch and other brand controllers.
  4. Metal pencil cases
  5. Eyeglass cases
  6. Aerosol sprays (deodorant, perfume, hairspray, etc.)
  7. Electric hair tools (curling irons, straighteners, etc.)

Reminder: Student Volunteer Requirements

REMINDER:  Every DeBakey student must have at least 100 community service to graduate with a DeBakey diploma.

Remember, colleges look at the community service and how you give back to your community when choosing a candidate to accept into their school. The summer time is a great chance to get caught up and to give back to the community.
