Purchase a Benefactor Wall Plaque

Dear Parents and Alumni of DeBakey HSHP,

As you may already know that our school has been ranked #1 in Houston (out of 54 schools) for eight years in a row. US News and World Report also ranked DHSHP #4 in Texas (out of 2,075 schools) and #29 in the nation (out of 17,792 schools) in 2020.

But do you know that 89% of DHSHP students are minorities and 42% are economically disadvantaged? Do you also know that the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) of DHSHP has financially supported many school activities which helped enrich our students’ learning experience? These activities include textbook purchases, Scientific Symposium, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Field Day, Fall Festival, Basketball, Volleyball, Yoga, Chess and more. These events are critical to help our children grow and develop skills in academics, communication, critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork. This school year, the COVID-19 pandemic made the PTO’s traditional fundraising efforts, such as uniform sales, nearly impossible. While we expect the 2021/2022 uniform sales to resume the traditional levels of support, we have lost ground to make up. Therefore, we, the PTO of DeBakey High School for Health Professions, need your help.

The PTO continues our effort to raise funds to support our children’s learning by creating a Benefactor Wall in the shape of a DNA helix (see photo below). The DNA structure reflects the school’s STEM focus and has 202 plaques for potential donors. Special THANK YOU to Dr. Kenneth Igbalode, a DeBakey Class of 2005 Alumni who sponsored the initial setup of the Benefactor Wall in 2020. Thank you to all 50 supporters of DeBakey school who had purchased the plaques last year.

You can help immensely by donating $500 and becoming a benefactor. Of this $500, $64 will be used to create your name plate (in blue or silver), and $436 will go towards the PTO fund. Our goal is to have 101 benefactors this year, raising $44,000 for the PTO. Your donations are tax-deductible and will optimize the success of your child as well as the entire student body and teachers.

All our lives have been turned upside down by COVID-19. Let us give some stability to our children’s lives by preserving the many activities that not only give them joy but also help them grow to be strong and resilient. Our children at DHSHP are our treasures. Please help us ensure their future by preserving their present. We wholeheartedly thank you for considering becoming a patron of our school.
